CAPO’S ANNOUNCEMENT OF 27/03/2014

At 13:00 hrs., the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) informed the press on the outcome of the meeting of the CAPO earlier in the day, gist as follows:

The CMPO has received a report from the Metropolitan Police and Provincial Police regional commands regarding the legal proceedings against the election obstructions. So far, there are 191 cases involving election obstructions (51 cases in Bangkok and 140 cases in other provinces) and 180 cases involving the failure of electoral officers to perform their duties (66 cases in Bangkok and 114 cases in other provinces). 201 person already faced arrest warrants. 226 person have been brought to justice. 1713 Election Commission officers also failed to perform their duties. For those public officers who failed to perform their duties, the Office of Pubilc Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) is proceeding with investigation and will bring those public officers concerned into justice.

The CMPO had managed to reopen 67 government offices. The CAPO wished to urge all the parties concerned to stop blockading government officers, as the blockage has resulted in difficulties for public servants to deliver services to the public.

The CAPO wished to reiterate its responsibility as a body to uphold peace and order in Bangkok and the metropolitan area and reaffirmed that it will continue the process of investigation and prosecution against actions those violated the law in various occasions particularly the elections obstructions. The CAPO is of view that the situation could escalate and more conformations may occur. Yesterday, there was a shooting of M79 bomb at Changwattana protest, the CAPO immediately sent combined officers to investigate at the site.

On 20 March, the police officers also arrested two men who were equipped with 2 sniper rifles and 20 bullets, those two men intended to sell these weapons to those who may want to use during the protest. The CAPO has been following the case closely, and urged investigation officers to proceed with further investigations.
