CMPO's announcement of 01/03/2014

March 1, 2014

At 13:00 hrs. Mr.Tharit Pengdit, Director-General, the Department of Special Investigations, briefed the press on the outcome of the meeting of the Center For Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO).

1. The CMPO has assigned the Secretary-General of the Office of National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) to lead a special committee with a duty to seek cooperations from public and private financial institutions in order to provide assisting measures for small and medium enterprises which have been affected by the demonstrations led by the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC)

2. The CMPO wished to express its support for the position of General Prayuth Chan-O-Cha, the Army Commander-in-Chief, that the way of negotiation is the resolution to the current political conflicts. The CMPO wished to express that it is also the way that the CMPO has adhered with and it wished to reaffirm that the CMPO is not the opponent of any groups, whether pro- and anti- PDRC, and the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD). The CMPO is a special authority established with a duty to maintain democracy including peace and order.

3. The CMPO wished to express its appreciation for the PDRC's decision to move all protest sites to the Lumpini Park. However, the CMPO still has concerns about the demonstrations at the Chaeng Watthana Road and the Government House compound. Also, the CMPO wished to request the protest leaders at the office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to clear the way for officials to enter, as the demonstrations at that venue could ignite more political conflict. The CMPO will seek advices from the Civil Court about instructions for the police in dealing with the protesters in such venue.
