CAPO’S ANNOUNCEMENT OF 31/03/2014

At 13:00 hrs. Mr.Tharit Pengdit, Director General, Department of Special Investigation, briefed the press on the outcome of the meeting of the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) earlier in the day, gist as follows:

1. The CAPO has instructed the Special Investigation officers to extend the period for Mr.Suthep Thaugsuban and other 58 People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) to acknowledge the charges regarding the election obstructions and the seizing of government agencies premises and to defend themselves until the end of this week. The Special Investigation officers have been contacted by 5 alleged persons namely Mr.Ong-art Klampaiboon, Mr.Boonyod Sukthinthai, Mrs.Nattaya Benjasiriwan, Mr.Tossapon Pengsom, and Mr.Charnwit Wipusiri that they will surrender to the officers to acknowledge charges on 2 April. The CAPO urged other alleged persons including Mr.Tawil Pliensri to follow the summons as the officers have to transfer reports on the investigations to the Attorney-General later on. The CAPO has assigned Police Major Yutthana Praedam to coordinate in this matter.

2. The CAPO has received a report from the Metropolitan Police and Provincial Police regional commands regarding the legal proceedings against the election obstructions. So far, there are 191 cases involving election obstructions (51 cases in Bangkok and 140 cases in other provinces) and 180 cases involving the failure of electoral officers to perform their duties (66 cases in Bangkok and 114 cases in other provinces). 202 person already faced arrest warrants. 231 person have been brought to justice.
From the senate election that was held on 30 March, unofficial number of voters is 18.7 million.
