CMPO's announcement of 11/03/2014

March 11, 2014

At 13:00 hrs. Mr.Tharit Pengdit, Director General, Department of Special Investigation, briefed the press on the outcome of the meeting of the Center For Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO).

1. Following the negotiation between the CMPO's negotiating team led by Major General Surachart Chitjaeng and Luang Pu Buddha Issara in order to clear the way at the Chaeng Watthana Road, the CMPO wished to express its regret that the negotiation was not successful. Luang Pu Buddha Issara refused compromised offers of the CMPO while made many impractical requests such as requesting General Nipat Thonglek, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense to spend 3 nights at the protest site or the Director of the CMPO to offer guarantee that the protesters would not be harmful which the CMPO could not promise due to the current limitation mainly caused by the Civil Court's ruling. The CMPO will find other solutions to clear the way at the Chaeng Watthana Road.

2. The CMPO had managed to reopen 66 government offices. However, since the Civil Court's ruling, members of the PDRC have blockaded government once again. The PDRC has trespassed on and besieged more government agencies such as the Department of Correction, the Shinawatra Building 1 and 2, Government Lottery Office, and Rice Department. The CMPO has advised the Permanent Secretaries and heads of all government agencies to take legal actions, both criminal and civil against members of the PDRC who have blockaded their offices within 24 hours.

3. Following the Civil Court's ruling indicating that the demonstrations of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) at the PTT Public Company Limited and the Ministry of Energy was against the law, the Court  has also ordered the protesters to clear the way at the venue and also to move all equipments from the site. The CMPO encouraged other agencies which have been blockaded by the PDRC to file the court petition as soon as possible. Recently, the CMPO has received a report from the DSI that as a result of the PDRC's blockading its premise, it has severely affected the process of investigation and prosecution under the DSI capacity. The DSI will file a request to the Office of the Attorney-General to take legal actions against Luang Pu Buddha Issara who has led the protesters to blockade the DSI including other agencies in the nearby area.
